Author Interview
Hi everyone! It’s Melissa from the Jessie Lane duo, and today I’ve stopped by A One-click Addict’s Book Blog today for a chat. HI there wonderful interviewer! Thanks for having me.

Who's your favorite author? I have so many that it’s really hard for me to pick just one. If we are basing it on genre I would say overall is Maya Angelou. Paranormal is Shelly Laurenston and YA/NA is Rachel Caine and Cassandra Clare. Adult romance is Kristen Ashley and Lori Foster.

Did you have a mentor? How did this person shape you as a writer? My brother Matthew has always tried to get me to read something different and got me into writing science fiction and paranormal. He ignited my love for vampires and zombies, and ever since then, I have wanted to write in that genre.

How did the characters come about? All of the characters from the Star Series’ first book, The Burning Star, came from a dream that Crystal had one night. After the first book, I have taken over and expanded the characters into what they are now in The Frozen Star. Their personalities will grow even more as the series concludes in the final book in the series, The Divine Star.

Was there a part of this book that was difficult for you to write? A few scenes were difficult for me, but I would have to say that the scene where the main characters lost one someone in battle and then subsequently were planning the funeral hit a little too close to home as I have recently lost someone in my family.

How did writing paranormal books come about? For me, paranormal writing comes easier than say the traditional romance or traditional fiction. Paranormal has its own boundaries and rules, which are simply that there are no rules. You are able to create the world as you see fit.

Who's your favorite character in this book? It changes daily, but I keep going back to Kane. He’s so persistent in his quest to get Kira to open up and accept that she doesn’t have to go through life alone anymore. That she not only has the love of her family but his as well if she will accept him and let him in.

What was your favorite childhood book? The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. My father gave me a copy that he bought on one of his missions overseas while he was in the military. I still have it to this day.

Do you prefer writing stand-alone or series? I have not done a stand-alone yet, but I would like to later. I have a few ideas that I know can all be achieved with a HEA in one book without having to drag it out over two or three.

If you could talk to any author, dead or alive, who would it be? I actually already had this wish granted last year when my husband took me to see Cassandra Clare at a book signing in Washington. I got to ask her and Sarah Rheas Brennon a few quick questions and it was the best day ever. The hubs even took me out to dinner to celebrate it.

When you started writing, did you have family support? Definitely. Every day my family asks me how my writing is going and what I’m working on at the moment. My husband is the best sounding board when I need someone to listen to my ideas and tells me the truth on whether it’s a good idea or not.

Was writing a book with so many different POV’s difficult? No, not really. It helped to portray some scenes through a different set of eyes so that the emotions and actions were able to catch the reader’s attention more and keep them more engaged with the story.

Before I go I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to A One-click Addict’s Book Blog for letting me stop by and chat today! I hope you all will check out Jessie Lane’s latest release, The Frozen Star, from our YA/NA Paranormal Romance & Fantasy series! Happy Reading!

by Jessie Lane
Release Day: May 29, 2014
Blurb:
The journey continues:
Kay had discovered secrets, lies, shocking truths, and even love in a strange new world hidden from humans. Everything she thought she knew was turned upside down when she found out three things:

- She wasn’t human.
- She has a power she can't control.
- And there was a possibility that she had found a way to cure the cancer that was rapidly killing her with that very same power.

Then, just when she was on the precipice of gaining everything she wanted and saving her own life, tragedy struck. Will she be able to fight her way back to Ryan and save herself in the process?

Kira had lived a terrifying and confusing life of servitude and abuse under Lord Donovan and his son, Cole. It was an existence that had stripped away her emotions, and eventually, her reason to keep fighting. Just when she thought freedom was within reach, Lord Donovan struck again, ruining her plans and almost killing her in the process. When she awoke from her injuries, it was to stunning revelations that would change her life forever. Changes that she was not entirely sure she wanted to embrace.

Persistent individuals such as Prince Kane refuse to let her walk away, though. Will she embrace all of the sudden fortune in her life? Or will she walk away from those who need her most, forsaking their acceptance and love?
