TAINT (The SNAP Trilogy #2) By Tara Dawn

"Captivating and enthralling - this series certainly will not let you go."
~ Bonny Capps, author of The Killer Series

"This suspense-packed thriller is one that fans of dark romance should not miss." ~ Courtney Lane, author of the Wicked Trinity Series

I'm so excited to get this installment into everyone's hands. It was a very emotional story for me to write. One that left me stranded at the top of a crazy ass rollercoaster. If you have yet to become a Snap Addict, don't run away. I've got a special going on for new readers. Thanks for checking out my newest release. I hope you enjoy it. ~Tara Dawn

Synopsis:

Hazel
I don't know who I am anymore, or what I'm becoming. Time doesn't exist in this godforsaken Hell I call my life. Every time I find a semblance of hope, it's bled away. Just like I'm bleeding away. The longer he believes he's won, the more I die inside. I may be nothing but a shell by the time this is over.

Cash

I failed her. I couldn't keep her safe. Now I may lose her completely. We're running against a clock controlled by a madman and we don't know when he plans to end his game. Every minute that passes without finding him makes the thought of killing him that much sweeter.

Phil

I didn't think it would be so easy. Pretty soon, my Snap will be on the streets and I'll be living the dream. That is, after I take Cash out. With him gone, I'll control not only the drug, but Hazel as well. If she listens, she will have a hell of a life. Right. Beside. Me.

*This series contains scenes of drug abuse, brutality, and rape. Reader discretion is advised.

Excerpt:

My hand slips from his and I make my way to the kitchen. I look at the bottle and back to my glass for a moment before putting the bottle to my lips. The wine fills my mouth, and I gulp it down hoping it will drown the emotions swirling within me. But the lump in my throat remains and grows larger with every pull off the bottle. The more I swallow, the more it feels like I'm choking. I lower the bottle, letting it thunk on the counter top, and try to breathe through the panic attack building inside of me.

 "I was infatuated with you."

The rumble of his voice makes me clutch the counter, my breath caught in my chest. As much as I want to know, I can't listen to it right now. It's all too much to take in when I'm still coming to terms with what Phil did to me.

"The longer I watched you, the more I was drawn to you," he continues, his voice getting closer. "You learn a lot about people when they don't know you're looking." My back warms as the heat of his body gets closer. He places his hands on the counter, trapping me between his arms. "Want to know what I learned about you?"

I stare down at the counter, thankfully hidden by the curtain of hair falling around my face, and shake my head. Cash's slight stubble on his jaw rubs against the side of my face as he leans closer, his chest grazing my back. His heart beats a rhythm that mine recognizes and tries to keep in tune with. I'd rather face Phil right now, because at least I know where I stand with him.

"You are selfless," he says, disregarding me. "You're happiest when those around you are happy. You have this need to help others without getting anything in return. But you're too prideful to let anyone in and help you when you need it most. You push people away by putting the focus back on them and deal with shit that you shouldn't have to deal with alone. And you do it all with the most beautiful smile I have every seen." His arms drape gently around me, and he rests his head against mine. "It's hard to find genuinely good people in the world," he whispers. "Trust me, I know. I've spent my life watching people selfishly choose their needs over others. And I turned into one of them."

Cash turns me around and cups the side of my face lifting it up to his. "I didn't want this to happen. I wanted to do my job and come home. But I couldn't stop thinking about you. I wanted what you gave everyone else freely. So I selfishly took it. I needed to see you smile at me like that and know I was the reason for it. And when you did, I couldn't get enough." He searches my eyes as he bares his heart to me. His mouth hovers over mine, bathing my lips in the warmth of his whiskey-scented breath with every word. "I wanted more. I thought I'd get it and walk away from you when this was over. But there's a piece of me that thinks I deserve this…" His lips brush against mine tormentingly as the shaky words fall from his lips. "That I deserve you."

My Review
Savage Lover is book 4 in the Savage Angels MC series and I highly recommend reading them in order.
I've been a huge fan of Dane and Kat throughout this series but I think it's time for Dane Reynolds to move over an make room for Kade Cantrill.

Kade's a nomad but is at a point where he's ready to settle in with a club, Savage Angel's seem to be the best run and it's a place he'd like to call home.
When things go bad for the MC and their under attack by an unknown, Kade steps up and does everything he can to help out.
It just so happens the sweet little stripper he rescued is a part of it and she's latched onto the man who saved her.

Destiny isn't like most strippers. She's paying her way through school, refuses to go completely nude and doesn't sleep with the men who frequent the club. She's not a prude by any means she's just not going to whore herself out, stripping is only quick money for her future.
Until the night someone doesn't want to take no for an answer.
Heading to the MC for help she wrecks her car only to be pulled out by Kade.
Kade's a good man, he's by her side for everything whenever she needs him. The club is protecting her but Kade seems to be the only one she really wants by her side.
When things start to heat up between the two of them things also heat up with their enemy.
A horrific attack leaves the club more vulnerable than ever, they can't find the people responsible and add to that Dane and Kat are having issues.
I love them but my lord I'd have beat Dane senseless if I were Kat, the man didn't stop to think about her even once and that's not the Dane I remember from early on.
Kat makes a decision I never saw coming.
While it appears Dane & Kat's world is falling apart, Kade & Destiny's is just getting started.

I have a love/hate relationship with this book. Like the previous books in this series I loved it from the beginning, it's the end of this one that drives me nuts. The author tossed in a major something to throw us off and I'm hoping she makes it up to us pretty quick!!

EXCERPT
"Who are you sending to get these men?"
The General looked at Commander Mitchell. Sunny looked as well and found her staring back at her.
"We have four teams," Commander Mitchell said. "Each team has been assigned a historian advisor and a medical team. You, Lieutenant Blake, are Alpha team. You're going back for the first warrior in two days' time. Your historian will give you the information you need to rescue him. Once you get him back here the medical team and the Council will take over. If he decides to stay he'll be assigned to your squad. We expect the men we save to help us bring back more soldiers and supplies while we familiarize them with our world. Any other questions?"
"Yes, ma'am," Sunny said. "Who am I retrieving?"
"Jefferson W. Stone," Commander Mitchell said.
"The twenty-third? The one who died in 2125?" Sunny had to work hard to keep the excitement from her voice.
Commander Mitchell nodded. "We thought it was appropriate to choose him first since this is the twenty-third century."
General Davis stood. "Lieutenant Blake, get some rest and report to your historian at zero six hundred. At this time, we've covered everything and you're all dismissed."
Sunny and the other lieutenants saluted then left the room. Once they were out of sight of the Council chambers the squad leaders surrounded Sunny and the ribbing began.
"Wow! Jefferson W. Stone the Twenty-third! Your all-time huge crush!" Kelby Barker said, then laughed.
Before Sunny could answer, Ginny Johnson piped up, "According to his biography you're his type. Tall and curvy with big," she held her hands at her chest then moved them out several inches and laughed.
"Maybe we should put her in a chastity belt. We might have one in storage somewhere," Lieutenant Jo Miller said.
"There's no need," Sunny said.
"No need? He's all you ever talked about after you saw his picture in his biography," Lieutenant Dean said. "And, by the way, we know you tore his picture out of the book."
"You can't prove that." Sunny laughed. "Remember I've read his biography‐."
"You mean you've practically memorized it," Jo said.
"I prefer to say I've studied his book but either way I know his secrets. I think I can handle him." The initial excitement she'd felt was sinking in and becoming a reality. What would it be like to stand next to him? To be able to reach out and touch him? A man from the past that she'd never dreamt she'd meet much less have a chance to get to know. Stone was a man's man and he'd appeared in most of her dreams for the last eleven years.
"The book says a lot of women have handled him," Lieutenant Douglas said then winked and added, "Or rather he handled them."
"They say when he died, the women he made love to grieved for him for the rest of their lives," Lieutenant Dean said with an envious heartfelt sigh.
"Bull crap," Sunny said. "They probably said good riddance, got married, and never gave him another thought."
Ginny laughed. "Well, just in case we get lucky, and he's as horny and energetic as his biography says, I'm going to the clinic to see if they have any kind of contraceptives."
"I'll come with you," Kelby said.
"Me, too." Jo said then looked at Sunny. "Coming?"
"No and all of you need to remember I called dibs on Stone ten years ago. So hands off, ladies."
"That was just a game we played at your sixteenth birthday party," Jo said.
"Too bad. Dibs are dibs," Sunny said. "Jo, you claimed Calder Campbell. Ginny you claimed Blade Lawrence and Kelby you claimed Gideon Williams. I'm enforcing the claim on Stone."
"Spoilsport," Ginny said.
Sunny laughed and hurried away while inside one phrase repeated in her mind‐hot damn, I'm going to meet Jefferson Wakefield Stone in the flesh!

Caleb Hall has always been the golden boy of the gridiron. Because of his talent at football, coupled with his father’s wealth, he’s always gotten his way. But when a night of drunken debauchery lands him in hot water with the college athletic board, neither his influential father nor his charming grin can save him. He finds it a total buzz kill when he is sentenced to community service with troubled youth at an inner-city shelter. For Avery Prescott, senior year was a nightmare of epic proportions, and Caleb Hall played the lead villain. After she fled her small town for college in the bright lights of Atlanta, she thought she had escaped the painful memories of her past. She never could have imagined Caleb would waltz through the door of the outreach program she presided over. But Avery has news for Caleb—she isn’t the same shy, doormat of a girl she was in high school. Excerpt

Feeling a stich in my side, I slowed to a stop and unzipped my jacket. With my hands on my hips, I took several deep breaths, embracing the sharp burn in my lungs. I loved this time of year, when the snow was at its last days. I enjoyed the cold white sheets of ice, because I knew that they would be gone in no time. Just like everything else.

“Hey, girl!” An SUV full of guys pulled up beside me, the one in the passenger’s seat sticking his head out the window. “What’s your name?” he asked, looking me up and down.

Ignoring him, I turned on my heel and kept walking. But the SUV stayed at my side, slowly skimming the edge of the sidewalk. Warmth flooded my body, along with a mix of fear and unease.

“Hey!” the driver shouted, leaning over the console. “We’re talking to you! Come here!”

They must have been students, like me and Sara. The neighborhood wasn’t far from campus and we knew a handful of people at school who had rented houses here before, out of a dislike for dorms and apartments. If these guys went to UW, I hoped that today would be our first and last encounter.

“Maybe she needs to warm up,” the passenger suggested. “Here, Ice Queen! Have some coffee.” He threw a Starbucks cup out the window at me, despite the fact that the container wasn’t empty.

As I braced myself, steaming hot coffee burst through the lid and splattered all over me. I staggered back and collided with another runner, as we both fell to the ground.

“Yes!” the guys in the SUV cheered. They took off, speeding through the neighborhood, as the passenger stuck his head out the window and rejoiced in celebration.

“Jerks,” the stranger beside me muttered.

Sitting back on my elbow, I looked over at the one thing I hated the most in this world right now. The one thing that had to be here at this moment. A Guy.

“Let me help you up,” he offered, extending his hand for me to take. When we were both on our feet again, he looked at me and smiled. It was the best smile I had ever seen.

Dressed in jogging pants and a sweatshirt, he was the embodiment of everything I had been searching for and now sworn off for good. Tall. Lean. Attractive. His short, curly hair was the darkest shade of brunette, yet not quite black. His eyes were soft and light, his irises somewhere in between blue and gray. My mouth watered at the sight of his chiseled cheekbones, strong jawline, and the slight stubble on his face.

He was my dream guy, but I had given up on dreaming a long time ago. So I did what I had to do. I ran.

“Hey, wait,” he pleaded, grabbing my arm. “Are you okay? I’m sorry about those guys. Don’t worry about them. They’re just jerks.”

I nodded, then looked down at the coffee stains on my clothes. These would be fun to get out, especially since our washing machine was a gadget sent straight from hell.

“I’m fine,” I said. “Thanks.”

With my head down, I stepped back and walked away from him.
