One Chance, Fancy by Lani Lynn Vale
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
One Chance, Fancy may be my favorite book by Lani Lynn Vale yet.
I try to think back to all the series of hers I've read, of each character I've loved more than most but after reading Bayou's story I just can't seem to bring a single one to mind that I love more.
Bayou has always been different, his life wasn't easy and he has to try to control everything. He's socially awkward, has quirks that most look at as strange, but this man is truly amazing.
He's not the typical romance hero and that's what makes this story great.
Phoebe aka Fancy isn't the typical heroine either, she pushes boundaries but prefers to be on her own, can't stand crowds which isn't exactly the right mindset for an MC kid.
She first meets Bayou when she's 15 and falls for his quirkiness immediately.
Years later they meet again and she learns just how much he's grown. She tried to date, tried relationships but it always came back to the boy she met years ago. They didn't really have much communication over the years but now she's working for him. As their friendship grows, he trusts her and she gives him the calm he's never known before. His mind isn't a ratrace when he's with her.
She's by his side the day he finds out he's a father, something he never thought he could be, that he'd be no good at. Together they fight to make sure this little girl has a normal life, she's been through hell and needs both of them to make her whole.
As it turns out Bayou needs Fancy as well. He's always wanted her and finally he's going to give it a shot.
This is where Alpha Bayou makes his self known, I loved the gradual changes in him that kind of smacked him in the face once he realized what was happening.
Fancy is strong, she's dependable, the constant he needs to keep his life on track yet add the things that were missing. The important things.
Loved this book so much, really I know there are others I've adored but for the life of me I just can't tell you why I loved them at all after meeting adult Bayou. Amazing story, a bit different than most but just as perfect as I've come to expect from this author.
