My Review

Book 3 in the Love Under Construction series is another amazing story. I recommend reading the series in order to understand the depth of the family connections and histories of these characters.

Renovating A Heart is Steve and Kelly's story. We met Kelly in book 2 when she offered a safe place for Laura to hide, bringing her into the family as a trusted friend who after her helping Laura became family to the Walter's.

Steve, the ever faithful friend and attorney who owns a private BDSM club and has a painful history, is brought into a new light in this book. In the previous books we saw him as the club owner who was controlled in all aspects of his life, he secretly would love to have a relationship like Nikki & Tony, Vic & Laura but as you learn in this book, trust is not an easy concept for Steve where relationships are concerned.

Steve was not one of my favorite characters, honestly I didn't see an entire book on him being something that would appeal to me, though I love and adore all the characters and story lines from the previous books, Steve just wasn't one of my favorites.

This book changed my opinion!! Steve is now one of my favorites, he is so much more than I thought he could be. His past like all of us, made him who he is today, but he learns to overcome his past, while helping Kelly get her life back. Steve basically brings life back to Kelly, giving her what she has missed for so long.

Steve makes mistakes along the way, he's human just like the rest of us. Mistakes he learns from and make him a better man. 

Kelly is stronger than you initially think, she knows what she needs but wasn't sure how to go about getting it. Steve was her answer. He may not have appeared to be the most compassionate man in the beginning dealing with Kelly, she was confused at his behavior but realized his past caused his behavior, his hangups that needed to be dealt with in order for them to move on.

Kelly saved Steve from himself, from living a solitary life never feeling he's truly loved. In return Steve gave her everything she needed and didn't wait too long to correct his mistakes with Kelly. That's one of the high points of this story for me, Steve was hurt and completely out of control of his feelings but he was smart enough not to let things stay that way for too long, there was no long drawn out reconciliation. 

As much as I didn't want to like Steve, he changed my mind about him just a few chapters in. I was so afraid he was going to break Kelly, and as close as he came to doing so he worked through his issues and they both came through it.

The Love Under Construction series has to be one of my favorites, there are no 20 something know it alls, these books are about adults, adults who have lived, learned, been hurt, got back up and tried again. The characters could be your next door neighbor, your sister. They all have flaws, they all have things they need to work through, they all truly want to be loved by that one person that gets them. The books are all very well written, the story lines are heartfelt and very emotional.
